What you'll need

1. Charging issues you may experience

  1. Wireless charging is slower than plugged-in charging.
Wireless charging is generally slower than using a traditional wired connection, which is common across all charging methods. However, the primary advantage of wireless charging lies in its convenience. A notable additional benefit of the slower charging speed is that it can promote better battery health. Unlike fast charging, which can accelerate battery degradation and reduce overall lifespan, wireless charging helps preserve your phone’s battery for longer use.

To get the best performance from your wireless charger, follow these helpful tips:some text
    • Remove cases and objects: Ensure your phone case or any objects attached to your phone (e.g., cardholders or accessories) are removed before charging.
    • Avoid direct sunlight: Keep the wireless charging surface out of direct sunlight to prevent overheating, which can slow down charging.
    • Optimize room temperature: Wireless charging works best at normal indoor temperatures. For optimal performance, we recommend keeping the room temperature below 75°F (24°C).
    • Check for slow charging: If you feel your charging speed is slower than expected, please visit our Troubleshooting Guide or contact Support for assistance.
    • iPhone-specific settings: If you're using an iPhone, adjust the following settings to maximize charging speed:some text
      • Go to Settings > Battery > Charging and turn off Optimized Battery Charging and Clean Energy Charging.
      • Ensure there is no Charge Limit set on your device.
  2. My phone isn’t charging
If your phone isn’t charging on a wireless charger, several factors could be causing the issue. Below are the most common reasons and how to address them:some text
    • Check your phone's capabilities: Ensure your phone supports wireless charging. Not all devices are compatible with wireless charging technology. Review our list of compatible devices to confirm if your phone is supported.
    • Make sure your case isn’t blocking the wireless power: Certain phone cases or accessories can block wireless power transfer. Make sure there are no:
      • Thick cases
      • Credit cards
      • Metal plates
      • Other objects between your phone and the charging surface
    • Make sure your phone isn’t raised too far off the surface: If your phone has a pop socket, thick case, or any accessory that raises it away from the charging surface, this could interfere with charging. Try removing these items and place the phone directly on the charger.
    • Make sure there is no sunlight or a room that is too warm: Wireless charging may not work properly in warm environments. Avoid charging your phone:some text
      • In direct sunlight
      • Near heat-generating appliances
      • In rooms with temperatures above normal indoor levels
  1. My phone is stuck at 80%
Smartphones are designed with battery safety protocols that regulate charging temperatures to protect the battery and extend its lifespan. Here's how these protocols work:some textsome text
    • Temperature regulation: When your phone's battery is below 80%, it may draw more power, causing it to warm up.
    • Slowing down at 80%: Once the battery reaches 80%, the phone often reduces the power it draws from the charger to lower its temperature. This cooling process can take several minutes and then should resume to charge from there.
    • Challenges in warm conditions: If the phone is in direct sunlight, near a heat source, or in a room that’s too warm, it may never cool down enough to resume charging.
    • Slower charging above 80%: Due to safety protocols, when your phones battery is above 80%, it will charge slower than when it is below 80%.

If your phone is stuck at 80%, try these steps:
    • Eliminate heat sources: Avoid direct sunlight or placing the phone near heat-generating appliance and ensure the room temperature is below 75°F.
    • Remove bulky cases or objects on the back of your phone: Thick or insulating cases can trap heat and objects on the back of your phone can slow down or block charging altogether.
    • Adjust iPhone battery settings: If you have an iPhone, certain settings may limit charging at 80%. To address this, go to:some text
      • Settings > Battery > Charging
      • Turn off Optimized Battery Charging and Clean Energy Charging
      • Ensure no Charge Limit is set on your device

2. Your phone can get warm

It’s completely normal for your phone to feel warm while charging wirelessly and is nothing to be concerned about. This happens with all wireless charging systems. While your phone may also warm up when plugged in, the heat can feel more noticeable with wireless charging due to the way energy is transferred.

If you’re concerned that your phone is getting warmer than expected, please contact our support team.

3. The Charging Halo™ varies in brightness

Our proprietary Charging Halo™ is a signature feature of FreePower, providing a functional and visually striking way to indicate the charging zone. However, its effectiveness depends on the material's translucency.

How material translucency affects the Charging Halo™

  • Non-translucent materials: The LED Charging Halo™ does not work with materials that are not translucent.
  • Inconsistent translucency: Some materials, like natural stone, may vary in translucency across a single piece. This can result in a bright glow in one area and a dim or absent glow in another.
  • Brightness of the Charging Halo™: The brightness of the Charging Halo™ will vary depending on the translucency level of the stone. Some materials allow a lot of light through, and some materials allow for little light to get through.

To learn more about material compatibility, visit our Material Compatiblity Webpage.

Upcoming alternatives

FreePower is introducing alternative options to the Charging Halo™ glow in 2025. If you're experiencing issues with the glow on an installed FreePower charger, please contact our support team. We’ll assist you in securing an alternative solution as soon as it becomes available.

4. Surface care

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your FreePower wireless charger and the surrounding materials, follow these guidelines:

  • Avoid heavy or hot objects: To prevent damage to the stone and the charger, avoid placing heavy or hot objects on or near the charging area.
  • Avoid metal objects on the charging surface. While it’s safe to place metal objects on the FreePower charging surface, they can interfere with charging if positioned between the charger and your phone. To prevent issues where your phone may not charge, ensure no metal objects, such as keys or coins, are left on or near the charging surface.

By following these precautions, you’ll maintain the performance and durability of your FreePower wireless charger while ensuring a hassle-free charging experience.

5. Cleaning

Your countertop remains fully functional with FreePower embedded beneath the surface, allowing you to clean and use it as you normally would.

  • Safe cleaning: You can clean your countertop with any cleaning solution, just like you would with a standard countertop.
  • No issues with spills: Wireless power transmits safely through liquids, so spills from food or drinks won’t affect the performance of your FreePower charger.
6. Putting FreePower to the test
